Pie: My birthday.<\/p>\n

Me: How can you tell?<\/p>\n

Pie: Because there’s balloons and writing on my wall and the usual stuff that was on Doodles’s birthday.<\/p>\n

Me: How old are you?<\/p>\n

Pie: I’m turning five.<\/p>\n

Me: How is five different from four?<\/p>\n

Pie: ‘Cause you get to go into kindergarten.<\/p>\n

Me: What are you most looking forward to.<\/p>\n

Pie: Having Ms. V teach my class and Jasmine in my class.<\/p>\n

Me: How will you celebrate your birthday?<\/p>\n

Pie: With Mommy and Doodles.<\/p>\n

Me: Doing what?<\/p>\n

Pie: Going out and doing lots of fun, fun stuff with them.<\/p>\n

Me: What can you do now that you couldn’t do when you were four?<\/p>\n

Pie: I can swim by myself. I can do a little bit of writing. And I now know all my numbers.<\/p>\n

Me: That’s a lot!<\/p>\n

Pie: And that seems like enough.<\/p>\n

Me: Absolutely. What do you want to be when you grow up?<\/p>\n

Pie: A mom.<\/p>\n

Me: Are you going to work outside the house?<\/p>\n

Pie: No. Work in.<\/p>\n

Me: How are you going to have money?<\/p>\n

Pie: I don’t know.<\/p>\n

Me: How many kids will you have?<\/p>\n

Pie: Two or one.<\/p>\n

Me: Any grand pronouncements?<\/p>\n

Pie: No.<\/p>\n

Me: What else do you want to say to everyone?<\/p>\n

Pie: I don’t know. That’s all.<\/p>\n
