{"id":1183,"date":"2003-01-12T09:39:00","date_gmt":"2003-01-12T09:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jennyandadam.com\/Jenny\/2003\/01\/the-kind-of-morning-it-is.html"},"modified":"2003-01-12T09:39:00","modified_gmt":"2003-01-12T09:39:00","slug":"the-kind-of-morning-it-is","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jennyandadam.com\/Jenny\/2003\/01\/the-kind-of-morning-it-is.html","title":{"rendered":"The Kind of Morning It Is"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m reading this book called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/1573229385\/jennyspage-20\"><i>The Frog King: A Love Story<\/i><\/a> and on the cover is a quote from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/external-search?tag=jennyspage-20&amp;keyword=bret%20easton%20ellis&amp;mode=books\">Bret Easton Ellis<\/a> that reads, &#8220;Probably the funniest young-guy-in-New York novel since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0394726413\/jennyspage-20\"><i>Bright Lights, Big City<\/i><\/a>.&#8221; So I think to myself, &#8220;What an ass, comparing this book to his own book and who does he think he is calling his own book funny and yadda yadda yadda.&#8221;  I&#8217;m really inappropriately annoyed at Ellis, until as I&#8217;m brushing my teeth, I think, &#8220;Ooohh! Ellis didn&#8217;t write it! <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/external-search?tag=jennyspage-20&amp;keyword=Jay%20McInerney&amp;mode=books\">Jay McInerney<\/a> did!&#8221; So I owe an apology to Bret Easton Ellis. Although it&#8217;s really his own fault: all of them&#8211;Ellis, McInerney, Tama Janowitz&#8211;they all pretty much wrote the same novel, didn&#8217;t they? Not that I haven&#8217;t enjoyed them.
